Pinspiration: Black, Lace and Cognac

I Pinned this outfit the other day with the idea to recreate it myself:

This is my version of the above look:

One of the reasons I Pinned this look is because although I already had all the pieces, it’s not something I would necessarily put together myself.  I mean, it’s just so neutral.  But, I’m trying to become more comfortable with neutrals so I thought I’d give this look a shot.  To do so, I paired my knit pencil (vintage, thrifted) with a cream, lace blouse (Limited), a cognac belt (thrifted) and cognac sandals (Jeffrey Campbell via Nordstrom).  I also added Nikki Jacoby earrings, some bracelets and a vintage necklace (via the Plucky Maidens Junkfest).  And, I think I liked it.  You know, for neutrals.

Happy Friday, All!

  1. You look very elegant! Cognac! That's the word I was searching for earlier to describe the color of my bag, but I couldn't find it. Thanks!

  3. you look so good! i always back away from neutrals as i just love colour but now and again i like to dabble and be a bit different. I think this look came out really well! BTW i've been reading your blog on my google reader app and loving so many of your outfits lately! Sorry about the lack of comments, i hate using my phone to comment, i always end up writing jibberish due to stupid auto correct (and my fat fingers) lol xx

  5. You really did that outfit pin justice! This looks fantastic. I too usually shy away from all-neutral ensembles, but there's something refreshing about them when I see them on other people.

  7. Very nice. Neutrals are so subtle that they're in the Advanced Class. You've graduated up to it; I'm still studying with the novices.

  12. I am always a sucker for cognac and black. The contrast makes each one richer looking, and it makes the wearer look elegant and sophisticated. Nice job.

  16. I know how you feel! Neutrals are tough for me, too, but I've been trying. I'm also trying to wear flats more often, but we'll so how that goes once the school year starts. I love love love your lace top! I've looked at several recently and have yet to pull the trigger. I'm hoping to find one thrifting in NYC. You look lovely!

  18. I like your version better, partly because many of us can't wear tanks to work - not without a cardi or jacket. Your outfit may be neutral, but it's definitely not plain. Very chic and classic.

  24. Ooh, Gracey, this is great! When it's like this, all-neutrals can be very cool and classy and stylish--I think that's the way to look at it instead of thinking all-neutrals is boring like, y'know, I usually do.

  25. Very lovely you are. You do not look "plus size" at all and I am a small/thin person. Love the shoes too! Our society is so messed up if you are considered a plus size. You wear it well!
